State of Fear Journal #1

What are the major themes in the novel State of Fear:

Fear is a main theme and function in the novel State of fear. Fear is easily instilled in people by what they see and what they hear, and what they choose to believe. Crichton also highlights societies reactions and behaviors having to do with fear, and crisis. Towards the end of the novel Dr. Normon Hoffman says to Evans, "I study the ecology of thought...and how it has led to a State of Fear." A central idea of the novel is that environmental crisis's are extremely overstated and exaggerated causing fear and terror all the while having the possibility of being completely fictional.
